It has recently been announced by the Ministry of Justice and Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) that you can be refunded part of your application fee for an enduring or lasting power of attorney between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2017.
This is due to the OPG’s operating costs coming down, due to an increase in people getting powers of attorney, but the application fees not being reduced to correspond to this.
You can apply for a refund online, or you call the OPG’s contact centre on 0300 456 0300.
The amounts are set out below (if you paid a reduced fee originally you are entitled to only half the refund)
When you paid the fee Refund for each power of attorney
April to September 2013 £54
October 2013 to March 2014 £34
April 2014 to March 2015 £37
April 2015 to March 2016 £38
April 2016 to March 2017 £45
Of course, if are yet to get power of attorney we highly recommend that you consider it, and would be happy to discuss the matter with you.
